Studies show that green tea helps you lose weight by increasing your body’s metabolism. Green tea helps you burn an extra 80 calories a day which adds up to 8lbs a year. For all you diet-conscienc people aout there green tea also helps to reduce cravings.
But how true this can be?
From my own experience, I do believe that green tea could help me to reduce my weight and at the same tie having a healthy diet and lifestyle.
Benefits of green tea
Because of its high polyphenols, green tea is ascribed all kinds of health benefits, from normalizing blood pressure to lowering cancer risk. But the only benefit labeled “likely effective” is mental alertness, likely due to the caffeine content.
The secret of green tea lies in the fact it is rich in catechin polyphenols, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). EGCG is a powerful anti-oxidant: besides inhibiting the growth of cancer cells, it kills cancer cells without harming healthy tissue. It has also been effective in lowering LDL cholesterol levels, and inhibiting the abnormal formation of blood clots. The latter takes on added importance when you consider that thrombosis (the formation of abnormal blood clots) is the leading cause of heart attacks and stroke.
Can you lose weight with green tea?
The proposed mechanism for green tea’s calorie-burning properties lies in the ability of EGCG to increase thermogenesis, or heat production, by influencing enzymes in the metabolic process. Thus, it simply means that EGCG seems to increased the amount of calories burned throughout the day for all activities, from digesting food to climbing stairs to typing. Other food components, like caffeine or capsaicin (in hot peppers) can boost calorie burning, but EGCG has a stronger effect. However, the effect is not likely to melt pounds off overnight.
So, I believe green tea is worth a try for weight loss. If you enjoy drinking tea while watching your weight, you might already be getting a small boost in your metabolism rates. Plus, it really helps me to reduce my craving for foods and thus prevent me from eating any unnecessary foods that could make me fatter.
My suggestions? Why dont you try to make your own green tea because after all you know best about what you will put in you own cup of tea.
